Took the middle little kids (5-8) on a game drive. Field trips are the best!
On the drive to the lodge, looking at the hills as we passed by, “Auntie Susie, are those volcanos?”
Played I SEE WITH MY LITTLE EYE: “I see something white” (thinking of the many white trucks and buses we were passing) “Auntie Susie, several screamed at the same time – your hair”.
Best one: Anyone need to use the toilet? All run in (It was an upscale lodge and every corner was an adventure). One minute later all the boys coming running out. One of them had pressed the hand dryer. None of them had ever seen one before. They were scared they were blowing the place up.
This may have been my favorite day with the kids at Mother of Peace. Watching their reaction to the animals – over the top for the Giraffes and Zebras. Pushing themselves to jump in the water at the bottom of the waterfall. White knuckling the safety bars as we bounced our way through the beautiful hills on the edge of the cliffs because “we might go over if the ranger isn’t careful”. I was in the boys safari vehicle and we all felt like great adventurers. Undoubtedly my number one game drive ever! Seeing the animals in the bush – always exciting, but with 10 little boys and 6 little girls seeing the richness of their country for the first time – absolutely the best.
Returning to the lodge – the entire staff turned out to welcome us and announce a surprise. They had an Easter Egg hunt ready to go, then lunch and mugs of juice, followed by free play on the trampoline, the gorgeous grounds and the very special swing basket. What a day!!
As a side note the highlight of the day for the little guys was when our ranger took a shortcut and we beat the girls vehicle. Oh how they cheered and laughed. One of the highlights of our entire African trip, leaving the gang exhausted!
